Bits of Style's Best of 2014

Is it really almost time to ring in 2015? I can hardly believe it. In the spirit of the last few days of 2014, I am rounding up the best of the best. It was a busy year filled with celebrity drama, chart topping music, haute couture, and so much more. Here is my 2014 edit.

Selfie: Ellen DeGeneres' Oscars selfie
This star-studded selfie took the world by storm. With over 3 million retweets, it is the most retweeted post on Twitter. Simply iconic.

Celebrity: Beyonce
Queen B ruled the world in 2014. From her show-stopping VMAs performance to her chart-topping album gone Platinum, Beyonce was slaying it. Even her sense of style was on point. The fashion world loved her striped Topshop dress like XO.

Artist: Taylor Swift
Haters gonna hate, but 2014 was the year of the Taylor Swift. Her album, 1989, is at the top of the charts and the #2 best selling album of 2014 with 3.4 million copies sold. She's the #1 artist on Billboard's Artist 100 for the 10th week in a row. At the AMAs, she was the recipient of the first ever Dick Clark Award of Excellence. I'm sure Taylor will have many more accomplishments in 2015.

Fashion moment: Lupita Nyong'o at the Golden Globes
High-fashion, elegance, glamour. Lupita Nyong'o stunned in Ralph Lauren Collection at the Golden Globe Awards. I can't imagine anyone but her wearing it. The cape, the color, the flawless fit...perfection.

Song: "Blank Space" by Taylor Swift
This song is catchy, fun, and one you want to sing along to. The music video is gorgeous and her outfits are amazing. I want every one.

TV show: Orange is the New Black
This is by far my favorite show ever. It's real, raw, and a riot. It is so funny. I love the characters and how you learn more about them throughout the series. If you have Netflix, this is a must-see. So excited for season 3 to come out in the new year!

YouTubers: The Hughes Sisters - Lindsey (beautybaby44), and Meghan (missmeghanmakeup)
Lindsey and Meghan remind me of me and my sister. They're so close and love fashion, makeup, and music. I love watching their main channel videos and especially their vlogs.

Book: The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
The Fault in Our Stars was one of my June favorites and it is my favorite book of 2014. In my opinion, the movie did not live up to how great this book is. (I think Ansel Elgort saved it). As I said in my favorites post, if you haven't read this one, or if you've only seen the movie, I highly recommend it.

Makeup product: Benefit They're Real! Mascara
If I could only wear one makeup product, it would be this mascara. I've been using it every day since I got it in early 2014.  They're Real! adds the perfect amount of length, volume, and dark black color. My lashes look like mine but better.

MAC Lipstick: Milan Mode
Although I just got this one for Christmas, Milan Mode is definitely my favorite lipstick of 2014. It adds the perfect kiss of color to the lips with a bit of sparkle. I know it will be one of my 2015 go-tos.

12 Days of Style: Day 12

On the 12th Day of Style...twelve of my favorite things about Christmas!

*

Christmas is one of my favorite holidays. I love all the excitement leading up to it--the feeling in the air, the decorations, the shopping, being with family, and so much more. I'd go on, but that would ruin this post!

1. Family
I always love being with my family, but during Christmas I especially enjoy spending time with them. It's fun to just sit and talk or go out shopping and looking for Christmas lights. Nothing beats family time.

2. Shopping
Christmas shopping is just the best. I love buying gifts for others, as well as picking out a little something for myself. Come on, who can resist the cute holiday packaging?

3. The music
As I mentioned in my last post, Christmas music is a seasonal favorite of mine. I have a Spotify playlist dedicated to it that I've been listening to 24/7.

4. The decorations
Christmas decorations make everything better. I have a weakness for twinkly lights and evergreen wreaths with red velvet bows.

5. Baking
Who doesn't love baking Christmas cookies?

6. Giving
 Giving gifts gives me joy.

7. The movies
My faves are Elf, Home Alone, Home Alone 2, and The Polar Express. I never get tired of them. ABC Family's 25 Days of Christmas will always hold a special place in my heart.

8. The tree
Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree...you make me happy.

9. The excitement
Christmas gets me all excited. I don't know what it is, but it just does.

10. The festivities
Family gatherings, the Nutcracker ballet, ice skating...it's all good.

11. Christmas Eve
Christmas Eve has always been one of my favorite times. The Christmas preparation, watching Christmas movies, and family traditions make me so happy.

12. Christmas Day
Opening presents, spending time with my family, and just enjoying the holiday...what could be better?

Thank you for joining me in my 12 Days of Style. I had a lot of fun writing these twelve posts and sharing them with you. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!

12 Days of Style: Day 5

On the 5th Day of Style...five fashionable celebs!

Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the style is so delightful! When the winter weather has got you felling the fashion blues, it’s time to turn to the celebs for inspiration. Covet these cold weather looks and you’ll be the best dressed all season long.

Model Miranda Kerr always looks fabulous. She doesn’t let the cold stop her from being chic. Lucky for us, this outfit is pretty easy to recreate.

You can’t help but love Taylor Swift’s style. She wears a skirt and tights right by bundling up in a cozy coat and sweater and topping the look off with a bowler hat.

Actress Lily Collins knows how to dress. Her simple outfit is a standout. Loving the leather details.

Zendaya has mastered the art of making a fashion statement. This primary colored coat stands out amongst the winter white.

Blake Lively’s Aztec-inspired cloak looks comfy and cute. It’s like wearing a stylish Snuggie!
